If you’re in a conversation and processing new or challenging information, it can be hard to know if you’re on the same page as the speaker.

One way you can do this is to ‘re-voice’ what you’ve heard back to them.

You can do this by saying:

“If it’s okay I’ll re-voice what I’ve heard to ensure I’ve got the same understanding as you”.

Then you can briefly summarise their key points. Try to use their words where possible & avoid introducing any new concepts or ideas.

It’s a great way of making sure you’ve heard what you think you heard, and also gives them an opportunity to sense check what they’ve said.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had better conversations with adults and kids alike after ‘re-voicing’ and the best part? It’s super easy to do.

A massive shout out goes to Bellevue Primary School and my kids for teaching it to me.

Enjoy!!
